Millions of Britons meet their morning with Alex Beresford, the ITV weatherman who turns cold fronts and looming storms into something you actually want to watch.

Born on October 17, 1980 (46 years old) in Bristol, England, he is best known for the forecast on Good Morning Britain and now leads the weather on the ITV Evening News.

A Bristol lad who began his career behind the camera as an autocue operator, Beresford talked his way in front of it and grew into a trusted national voice.

His warmth reaches well beyond the weather map. A passionate campaigner against knife crime, his 2019 documentary earned a Royal Television Society nomination, and in 2022, he was crowned champion of ITV’s All Star Musicals.

Alex Beresford Early Life and Education

Alex Beresford Early Life

Alex Beresford was born and raised in Bristol, England. He grew up in a close and hard-working household, the son of a white English mother and a Black Guyanese father.

In his earliest years, the family lived with his grandparents. His parents later moved into a council house on Sussex Place before saving for a deposit on a home in the Eastville area, where he spent the rest of his childhood.

His father, Noel, worked as an engineer for British Aerospace and rose at 5.30am each day without taking sick days. That example gave Alex a strong work ethic, and he took his first Saturday job at a local sports shop at the age of 14.

Growing up as a biracial child in 1980s Britain, Beresford has said that identity was rarely straightforward. Those early experiences later inspired his book, Things We Should Talk About.

Education

Beresford attended St Thomas More RC School in Eastville, which has since been renamed Fairfield High School.

He did not follow a university path into forecasting. Instead, he trained on the job at ITV, moving from a technical role into weather presenting.
