Women in our country are achieving great things. Recently, on Republic Day 2024, a group of women from the Armed Forces Medical Services marched together for the first time. Now, another woman, Geeta Kapur, has achieved something historic. She is the first woman to lead a hydro Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) in the Indian power sector.
Geeta Kapur has taken charge as the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (SJVNL), a state-owned company involved in hydroelectric power generation and transmission.
Back in 2018, Kapur made history by becoming the first full-time female Director in SJVN. She joined SJVN in 1992 as the first female Personnel Officer. Kapur, who is 59 years old and from Shimla, is an alumnus of the Himachal Pradesh University Business School, Shimla.
She holds an MBA specializing in human resource management and has dedicated over 31 years of service to SJVN. Throughout her career, she has gained extensive experience in human resources, civil construction, and civil contracts.
Kapur’s experience in human resources has been invaluable. She has played a key role in creating policies, establishing standard operating procedures, and negotiating wage settlements with unions. Under her leadership, the company was recognized as a ‘Great Place To Work’ in January 2024.
