Jasprit Bumrah is amazing both on and off the cricket field. His exceptional bowling performance of 6/61 helped India win against South Africa in Cape Town. What’s even more commendable is his gesture after the match.
During the post-match interview, Mohammed Siraj, who was named Player of the Match, brought Bumrah to translate his answers. Bumrah’s translation from Hindi to English impressed everyone.
Siraj, who took a career-best 6/15 on the first day, was asked about Bumrah’s support in bowling. He said, “Jassi bhai always gives me a message about the pitch conditions and the best line and length for each wicket. I just follow that, and success comes.” Bumrah, while translating, didn’t mention that Siraj credited him for the success and instead praised himself.
Bumrah said, “When we play together, he gets the message early due to my experience. We analyze the pitch quickly and communicate our bowling plan. That helps him.“
Bumrah’s respect for his teammate is evident, showing he is not only a great bowler but also a genuine teammate. Their bond was visible when Bumrah comforted Siraj after India lost to Australia in the World Cup final.
Since Siraj’s Test debut in 2020, he and Bumrah have been a formidable pair. In 11 Tests between December 2022 and January 2024, they took 152 wickets together, securing memorable wins for India. Notably, their recent performance in Cape Town was their best, with Siraj taking 6/15 and Bumrah taking 6/61.

Siraj said, “It’s my best Test career figures. I learned from the last game and focused on hitting the right areas.” The duo’s partnership continues to be a key factor in India’s success away from home, including victories at Lord’s in 2021 and Oval in 2021 against England.
