Sarvesh Shashi, a former Tamil Nadu cricketer, chose a unique path, diverging from his IPL dreams to become a celebrity-backed yogi and successful businessman. The founder and CEO of wellness firms Sarva and Diva Yoga, Shashi has built a Rs 100 crore company with celebrity investors like Malaika Arora, Shahid Kapoor, Mira Kapoor, Aishwarya Rajinikanth, and global star Jennifer Lopez.
A college dropout, Shashi’s journey into yoga began unexpectedly when his father initiated a foundation class but couldn’t continue, leading Shashi to take up the lessons. Inspired by his yoga guru, Shashi, along with his father, started the venture with three studios in Chennai, offering yoga-based wellness solutions to combat modern lifestyle stresses. The company also provides virtual lessons through an app and has secured a total funding of $12.1 million, with Sarva’s latest valuation at $14.1 million.
Before venturing into the wellness industry, Shashi, a practicing yogi, played cricket for Tamil Nadu and was on the verge of realizing his dream to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Despite being picked up by two IPL teams, he chose to forgo the opportunity to launch Sarva, starting with an unsecured Rs 5 lakh loan. In just three years since its inception in 2013, Sarva achieved a remarkable Rs 100 crore valuation in 2016.
Sarvesh Shashi’s commitment to yoga is reflected in his adherence to the five vows of non-violence, non-intoxication, celibacy, truthfulness, and no mental or physical theft. His unconventional journey has not only led to business success but also provided him opportunities to mingle with global celebrities like Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Naomi Campbell, and even travel on Jennifer Lopez’s private plane to attend her concert in Las Vegas.
