Phil Perkins has built his career across Canadian sports and news broadcasting, moving from play-by-play sports coverage into daily television news anchoring.
2011 to 2013: Sports broadcasting beginnings
Perkins started in sports media. He cohosted a weekly tennis recap webcast for Top Spin Radio with Tennis Canada in 2011, including preview and recap shows during the Rogers Cup.
He then became the play-by-play voice of York University and University of Toronto varsity sports for Sports Stream Network from 2011 to 2012.
From 2012 to 2013, he called play-by-play for RogersTV, covering Mississauga Warriors football, Boxing Ontario, and cricket.
2012 to 2023: CHCH News, Hamilton
Perkins joined CHCH in Hamilton in July 2012 as an anchor, reporter, and videographer. He shot, edited, and wrote his own reports daily and covered breaking news, politics, weather, business, and sports.
In 2015, he also worked as a sideline reporter for Ontario University Athletics, hosting the OUA football playoffs and provincial championship.
