Age 18: Joins the Toronto Police Service
Steve Ryan began his law enforcement career at the age of 18 as a police cadet. He steadily moved up the ranks to police constable and then sergeant.

Ryan spent roughly 13 years with the Toronto Police Service Homicide Unit. He served as lead investigator on more than 100 homicide cases.

One of his most notable cases was the Melonie Biddersingh investigation, which reached a successful conclusion in 2016.
2017: Retires and Joins CP24 as Crime Specialist
After a career of close to 30 years in law enforcement, Ryan retired and joined CP24 on August 28, 2017. He was welcomed to the network by Joanne MacDonald, Vice President of CTV News and General Manager of CP24.
In this role, he provides context and analysis on crime stories as they unfold. He has also contributed to CP24’s “Cold Case of the Week” series.
