Suzanne Evans Career

Suzanne Evans Work

Suzanne Evans began her professional career in journalism. She trained with the BBC and then worked in BBC Radio roles from 1987-1999. During those years, she worked across BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 5, the BBC World Service, and BBC Local Radio.

Her roles included reporter and presenter work on Radio 4’s Sunday programme, along with reporting for Woman’s Hour and the Today programme.

Move Into Communications and Public Relations

After leaving full time BBC work, Suzanne Evans moved into communications and consultancy.

Since January 2000, she has worked as a freelance PR and marketing consultant through Suzanne Evans Communications. She later also served as communications director at Aquarius PR from March 2006-May 2013.

Entry Into Local Politics

Her next major career step came in politics. On May 6, 2010, Suzanne Evans was elected as a Conservative councillor in the London Borough of Merton Council.

In May 2013, she resigned the Conservative whip and then joined UKIP as a councillor later that month. Her time in local government gave her direct political experience before she moved into a more senior national role.

Evans lost the council seat in 2014, but by then she had already become more visible inside UKIP.

Rise Inside UKIP

Suzanne Evans’s highest profile political period came with UKIP. She became deputy chair of the party in 2014 and was also closely linked with policy work.

Suzanne played a leading role in writing UKIP’s 2015 general election manifesto, and later worked on the party’s 2017 manifesto as well. Her profile rose further because she became one of the party’s most recognisable media figures during the Brexit era.

She also stood as UKIP’s parliamentary candidate for Shrewsbury and Atcham in the 2015 general election.

Leadership Ambitions and Internal Party Conflict

Her UKIP career was not a straight line. In 2015, after the general election, her name was discussed in relation to the party’s leadership.

In 2016, she was suspended from UKIP for six months during an internal disciplinary dispute, which blocked her from standing in that year’s September leadership contest.

After the suspension ended, she returned to senior party life and later ran in the November 2016 UKIP leadership election, where she finished second among the remaining candidates.

She was then reappointed as deputy chair under Paul Nuttall and also served as the party’s spokesperson for health and head of the policy committee.

Leaving UKIP

Suzanne Evans left UKIP in December 2018. She was alarmed by the direction of the party under Gerard Batten and objected to the association with Tommy Robinson, also known as Stephen Yaxley-Lennon.

Her departure marked the end of her formal career inside the party, but not the end of her public political role.

Charity and Public Health Work

Alongside media and politics, Suzanne Evans also built a public role in charity work. After being diagnosed with lipoedema in 2011, she helped set up Lipoedema UK with support from specialists at St George’s Hospital.

Consultancy, Training, and Political Commentary

After frontline party politics, Suzanne Evans continued her career through consultancy, training, writing, and commentary.

She leads work in media training, parliamentary select committee coaching, local government scrutiny committee coaching, policy development, political leadership, and communications strategy.

Current Career and GB News Work

At present, Suzanne Evans is best known to many viewers as a political commentator on GB News. GB News content regularly identifies her as a political commentator, and she continues to appear on current affairs and political discussion segments.
