Deepti’s cricket story began when she was just 9 years old. Her elder brother, Sumit Sharma, played state-level cricket and used to practice regularly. 

One day, Deepti delivered a direct throw from over 50 meters while watching her brother play. 

That throw hit the stumps, catching the attention of Hemlata Kala, a national women’s selector who was present at the ground.  

Entry into International Cricket

Deepti’s hard work paid off when she made her One Day International (ODI) debut for India on November 28, 2014, against South Africa. 

She was only 17 years old. Just two years later, she made her T20I debut against Australia on January 31, 2016.

Her ability to bat and bowl equally well gave her an edge, and she soon became a regular part of the Indian women’s cricket team.

Breakthrough Moment – The 188-Run Knock

Deepti had her biggest moment in May 2017, during an ODI match against Ireland. She scored an unbelievable 188 runs, one of the highest individual scores in women’s ODI history.

In that same game, she and her partner, Punam Raut, created a 320-run opening partnership, which remains a world record in women’s cricket.

Bowling Skills and All-Round Abilities

Along with her strong batting, Deepti is also known for her right-arm spin bowling. She has taken many important wickets in both ODIs and T20 matches. 

She stays calm during tough moments and often performs well when the team needs her most.
