Imran Riaz Khan Arrest

The field of journalism comes with its fair share of risk, as you are dealing with the truth and that too for the sake of the country, sometimes you have to tackle the big names and with this comes the threat of uncertainty. You could be arrested any minute, or worse killed.

The same thing happened with Imran Riaz Khan, as he was also arrested by the authorities for his bold journalism.

On July 5th, 2022, as he was driving towards the federal capital to secure bail from the Islamabad High Court, Imran found himself surrounded by the Punjab Police at the Islamabad Toll Plaza. Despite being aware of protective pre-arrest bail orders issued by the Islamabad and Lahore High Courts, he was arrested before he could exit Punjab jurisdiction. This arrest came as a shock to many, as it defied court orders intended to protect the journalist.

The reason for the arrest was not made public but In a video posted on YouTube, Riaz claimed that if he is not released, he will reveal the names of those behind the alleged operation to bring about a change in the government through foreign influence, which led to a constitutional crisis and resulted in the ousting of the PTI government led by Imran Khan. Riaz refers to this event as an “American conspiracy” against the sovereignty of Pakistan, which resulted in the removal of the former Prime Minister from office.

He was released on 9th July 2022 by the Lahore HC but was again arrested on 2nd Feb 2023. Twitter has erupted with hashtags supporting Imran and criticizing the system for his arrest.
