Mary Lou Finlay Career

Mary Lou Finlay began her broadcasting work in Ottawa after spending about three years writing and researching at the Canadian War Museum.
She gained national attention in 1975 when she moved to Toronto to co-host CBC Television’s Take 30 with Paul Soles.
Along with Take 30, she hosted her own CBC series, Finlay and Company (1976–1977), where she interviewed and profiled Canadians in business, politics, and the arts.
In 1978, she moved to CTV to co-host and produce Live It Up!. Along with other co-hosts on the show, the program’s original hosts included Jack McGaw and Alan Edmonds, also with Liz Grogan and Dianne Buckner.
She returned to CBC and became co-host of The Journal with Barbara Frum in its first season. After that, Frum continued as the main host, and Finlay stayed with the program as a documentary reporter until 1988.
On CBC Radio, she hosted Sunday Morning (1988–1994) and later Now The Details (1994–1997).
In 1997, she became co-host of As It Happens with Barbara Budd. On her first day, the program covered the death of Diana, Princess of Wales.
She retired from the CBC News in 2005.
