The UPSC Civil Services exam is a big dream for many people. Amrit Jain is someone who cracked it four times in a row. He’s from Bhilwara in Rajasthan. Amrit studied Electrical Engineering at NIT Warangal and then went to the Czech Technical University for more studies. After that, he got a job at a private company in Hyderabad.
Even though Amrit comes from a regular family, he tried the UPSC exam with little preparation in 2016. He thought the only challenge was the multiple-choice questions. But when he failed the prelims by just one mark, he changed his strategy in 2017. He studied from various sources for the static part and did 140 practice tests in 1 to 1.5 hours.
Amrit Jain says doing practice tests helped him greatly during the real exam. It let him read the questions three times, stay calm, and do well. For his optional subject in UPSC, he picked Political Science.
He tried the UPSC exam in 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021. In 2018, he got on the reserve list and was selected for the Indian Defence Accounts Services. Then, in 2019, 2020, and 2021, he got ranks of 321, 96, and 179 respectively. Even though he passed the UPSC exam four times, he didn’t become an IAS officer, which was his dream. But he doesn’t regret it. He knows only some get to be an IAS officer, even if they want to be.
