His father, Alie Kunda Bangura, was an engineer and a member of the Bangura Chiefs of Port Loko in Northern Sierra Leone. Dr. Bangura had a deep admiration for his father and was inspired by him throughout his life.
He once mentioned in an interview that his father taught him to fight against injustice, and tyranny, and promote the cause of the oppressed, depressed, repressed, and suppressed, which has influenced his writing.
