Unacademy, a well-known ed-tech firm in India, has experienced significant growth over the past 5-6 years. Starting from Gaurav Munjal’s YouTube channel, Unacademy, now a Rs 26,000 crore company, was established by Munjal, Roman Saini, and Hemesh Singh, all former engineers.

Hemesh Singh, an engineer by training, is the co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Unacademy. Prior to joining Unacademy, he served as the CTO of Flatchat. Singh holds a BTech degree from Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology and presently resides in Bangalore, Karnataka.

In 2015, Hemesh Singh, along with Raman Saini and Gaurav Munjal, established Unacademy after departing from Flatchat. Notably, Unacademy began as a YouTube-based educational program initiated by Munjal in 2010, and it was officially launched in 2015.

Unacademy achieved unicorn status in 2020 and is currently valued at $3.4 billion.

As the CEO of Unacademy in 2022, Gaurav Munjal received a salary of Rs. 1.58 crore, while Hemesh Singh and Roman Saini were paid Rs. 1.19 crore and Rs. 88 lakhs, respectively.

Unacademy assists numerous IAS aspirants in their preparation for UPSC exams via YouTube. The concept behind Unacademy was to establish a platform for UPSC coaching classes that does not necessitate students to spend exorbitant amounts of money.
