Umaid Bhawan Palace gained even more renown when India’s international superstar, Priyanka Chopra, selected it as the venue for her dream wedding to American singer Nick Jonas. This opulent palace boasts 347 rooms and is one of the world’s largest private residences. Shivranjani Rajye, a businesswoman with royal lineage, is not only the custodian but also the manager of this magnificent palace. She played a pivotal role in rejuvenating the fortunes of her princely family.

Shivranjani is the eldest child and the sole daughter of Gaj Singh II of Jodhpur. While her younger brother, Shivraj Singh, is the official heir to the family’s assets, Shivranjani has been instrumental in expanding the family’s business interests, which encompass forts and palaces converted into museums and hotels, in collaboration with her father. She entered the family business nearly two decades ago during a challenging financial period when her brother was in a coma due to a serious polo accident, taking several years to recover.

Her father, Gaj Singh II, ascended to the throne as the 29th Maharaja of Jodhpur at the tender age of four when his predecessor, Maharaja Hanwant Singh, tragically perished in a plane crash. Shivranjani Rajye and her father work closely together to manage the family’s extensive business portfolio. The Umaid Palace, which was completed in 1943, was originally commissioned by her great-great-grandfather, Maharaja Umaid Singh.

Shivranjani’s astute management has successfully transformed these assets into thriving enterprises. The Umaid Bhawan Palace, where the family resides, serves as both a luxury heritage hotel and a museum. The family also oversees the management of the Mehrangarh Fort and Nagaur Fort. In addition, Shivranjani is responsible for Jodhana Properties, the family’s overarching company. She spent her early years in Trinidad and Tobago, in the West Indies, where her father served as a diplomat.

At the age of six, she returned to India and began to realize the extent of her family’s influence. She pursued her education in England, majoring in anthropology at the renowned Cambridge University, before furthering her studies in filmmaking in New York. Additionally, she organizes a music festival.
