Early career

Nancy’s career began as a print reporter at Tulsa World in 2003. There she worked for three years. Earlier during her college days Chen worked as a web producer at KABC-TV and was also involved in the production for NBC Sports in Beijing.

Nancy Chen started her career as a broadcast journalist with KSBY in San Luis Obispo, California, where she worked as a multimedia journalist. Nancy subsequently worked for WHDH-TV located in Boston, Massachusetts where she covered the 2013 EF5 tornado in Moore, the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, the 2015 Super Bowl, the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, and the Boston Marathon bombing. 

Later in 2017, Chen joined WJLA-TV in Washington, D.C. as a weekday evening anchor, where she hosted a recurring franchise titled “Hero 24/7” that highlighted volunteers in the Washington, D.C. community. 

Nancy Chen has won two Emmy Awards from the National Capital division of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences while working with WJLA-TV. These awards were won for covering the 2017 Congressional baseball shooting.

Current Career

Nancy first joined CBS News as a Newspath correspondent in February 2020 and from 2021 Chen is working as a New York-based correspondent for CBS.
