Palki Sharma Upadhyay did her graduation in mass communication and journalism and she went to start her career in News anchoring with India’s largest broadcasting TV network Doordarshan. In there she had to shortlist the current news and write stories for it. At Doordarshan, she hosted the regional as well as the national news.

After starting with Doordarshan in 2004 she joined another news channel called “Hindustan Times”. She worked for civic and social content as a staff writer. There she did copy-editing works and also reviewed films.

In September, Sharma stepped down from her position at Zee News and later joined TV18 Broadcast Limited as a Managing Editor. Zee News accused her of breaking the mandatory notice policy and the non-compete agreement and possessing “confidential information” that she could use to advantage Zee News competitors.
Zee News requested the court to prohibit her from joining or working for TV18. Zee petitioned the High Court for a permanent injunction to be issued against Palki Sharma, prohibiting her from disclosing any confidential or proprietary information to any organization and from working for any competing business until June 2023.
On November 22, 2022, Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani of the Delhi High Court declined to prevent journalist and former Wion News Managing Editor, Palki Sharma Upadhyay, from joining Network 18. However, the court recorded a commitment from Upadhyay’s counsel that she will not reveal any confidential or sensitive information that she was aware of during her time at Zee to any third party.
