Indian cricketer, Rinku Singh talked about missing out on the T20 World Cup squad. Although he wasn’t selected for the main 15-member team, he will still travel to the USA and West Indies as a reserve player. Rinku has performed well in T20 matches and was expected to be in the squad before IPL 2024 began.
His team, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), won the title, but he didn’t get many chances to bat because other players scored most of the runs for the three-time champions.
Rinku, a left-handed batsman, scored 356 runs in 11 innings for India with an impressive strike rate of 176.24. He has already won a few matches for India by himself.
However, the selection committee chose Shivam Dube over Rinku because Shivam had a better individual performance in the IPL. Despite this, it was Rinku who celebrated winning the IPL trophy with KKR.
After winning the title, Rinku spoke about not being picked for the T20 World Cup and said he was a bit sad at first. He shared,
“Yes, anyone feels a little bad if he is not selected despite good performance. However, this time I could not get selected due to the team combination. It is okay, one should not think too much about things that are not in one’s hands.
Yes, I was a little upset in the beginning. Whatever happened is fine. Whatever happens, happens for good,” Rinku told Dainik Jagran.
Rinku also had a conversation with India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, after the squad selection during a training session before an IPL match between Mumbai Indians and KKR. Rohit advised him not to worry too much about the selection, as another T20 World Cup will be held in two years.
“Rohit Bhaiya did not say anything special. He only said that just keep working hard. There is a World Cup again after two years. There is no need to worry too much. This is what he said to me,” Rinku shared.
Talking more about Rohit’s leadership, Rinku said he doesn’t have much experience playing under Rohit but praised his support for young players.
“The whole world has seen how good his captaincy is. If I talk about myself, I have done only one tour with him so far. I have not even talked to him much. He supports the youth a lot. He only wants the youth to do well and he always says that play, do well,” Rinku added.
