Sangita Patel Career

Sangita Patel Career

Sangita Patel did not begin her working life in the media. After finishing her electrical engineering degree in 2002, she worked in engineering for about five years and also earned her professional engineering designation.

During that period, she started taking volunteer and side roles in media, including work with Rogers Community Television.

One early step in that move was entertainment reporting for a Rogers cable show called Toronto Living. She also reported for Rushes, the Toronto International Film Festival highlight show.

Weather and lifestyle television work

After her early media experience, Sangita worked part-time at The Weather Network. She has said this period was useful training because it taught her how to speak clearly and think fast on live television.

From there, she moved into weekend weather work at Citytv, and that opened the door to CP24, where her role grew further.

At CP24 and Citytv, her career started to widen beyond weather. She became known for lifestyle and entertainment segments, including her own CityNews feature called In the City. She also became a regular fill-in on Breakfast Television for both the Weather and Live Eye segments.

Joining ET Canada in 2014

A major turning point came in 2014, when Sangita Patel joined ET Canada. In February 2014, she joined the show while Cheryl Hickey was away on maternity leave. That step brought her into one of Canada’s best-known entertainment programs and gave her national exposure.

At ET Canada, Sangita grew from a new addition on the team into one of the show’s most familiar faces.

Her work included red carpet coverage, celebrity interviews, special event reporting, and regular entertainment news segments.

Working with Cheryl Hickey, Rick Campanelli, Roz Weston, and Liem Vu

During her ET Canada years, Sangita worked with several well-known presenters from the show. In 2014 and 2015, Global News was promoted to ET Canada Live, featuring Cheryl Hickey, Rick Campanelli, Roz Weston, Sangita Patel, and The Morning Show’s Liem Vu. They all appeared together.

Her longest and most clearly confirmed on-air partnership at ET Canada was with Cheryl Hickey.

In 2022, Sangita was promoted from reporter to host, with Corus and Canadian Press coverage stating that she would help lead the nightly broadcast alongside Cheryl.

This role came after Rick Campanelli had left years earlier and after Roz Weston had stepped away in 2022, which helps place her promotion in the wider history of the program.

Home to Win and HGTV Canada from 2016 to 2019

While still building her place at ET Canada, Sangita also expanded into lifestyle television. In 2016, she became the host of HGTV Canada’s Home to Win.

She hosted the show for four seasons, and the series ran from April 24, 2016, to December 15, 2019.

Home to Win also connected her with a large group of HGTV personalities. Her with names such as Scott McGillivray, Samantha Pynn, Mike Holmes, Bryan Baeumler, and Sarah Richardson.

ET Canada Weekend in 2021

In 2021, Sangita took on another bigger role when she became the host of ET Canada Weekend.

Global announced that the weekend edition would launch with Sangita at the helm, and the article also said she had been delivering entertainment news for ET Canada since 2014.

Promotion to ET Canada host in 2022

In August 2022, Sangita received one of the biggest promotions of her television career when she was named a host of ET Canada.
