She is known for covering Canadian federal politics and major national news stories for more than 20 years.

She worked with CBC for many years and most recently served as a National News Anchor on CBC News Live.

Canadian political reporter Hannah Thibedeau is married to Trevor (Trev) Alkins. They were married in early August 2016.

The couple held a surprise wedding in their backyard in Ottawa, surrounded by family and close friends.

Hannah’s father was Herbert “Herb” Larry Thibedeau (July 5, 1948-May 24, 2021). He was from Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, and worked as a schoolteacher at South Centennial School. He was the son of Stephen Thibedeau and Helen (Trask) Thibedeau. 

He enjoyed local history, taking photos, trivia, and collecting antiques and sports items.

He died at Yarmouth Regional Hospital after a 10-year illness with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP).

Deb (MacLeod) was her mother. She was a teacher and a salesclerk.

Hannah Thibedeau worked in Canadian journalism for about 25 years, including around 15 years at CBC. She joined CBC in 2009. She first worked as a local reporter. She later became a producer for Politics with Don Newman. In 2012, she moved to CBC’s national bureau in Ottawa and focused on federal politics.

Along with Andrew Nichols, she co-hosted the program CBC Newsroom with Andrew Nichols and Hannah herself, with Nichols anchoring from Toronto and Thibedeau anchoring from Ottawa.

She also served as a National News Anchor on CBC News Live. In this role, she anchored breaking news and special live coverage.

During her years covering Parliament Hill, she reported on seven federal elections and on major national events. 

Her work on coverage of the 2014 shootings on Parliament Hill and the 2022 Ottawa truck convoy protests, including a live special called Ottawa Occupation. 

Thus, she spent 20 years on Parliament Hill.

On April 3, 2024, Global Public Affairs announced that she joined the firm as an Executive Communications Officer, supporting clients with communications, media relations, and public affairs.

Along with her TV work, Hannah has also appeared on political podcasts.

She was featured on the Canadian politics podcast Beyond a Ballot, a weekly news show that releases new episodes on Fridays. The show is hosted by Amanda Alvaro and Rachael Segal.

For example, in an episode published on December 26, 2025, titled “2025 in Canadian Politics with Kathleen Monk & Hannah Thibedeau (Season 3, Episode 11)”, she joined the conversation as a guest with Kathleen, alongside the show’s hosts.
