Joel Senick is a Canadian broadcast journalist and news anchor. He is best known as the Managing Editor for Global Calgary and Global Lethbridge, a role he stepped into in February 2025.

Senick was born on February 11, 1989 (37 years old) in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. 

He spent several years as the co-anchor of Global News Hour at 6 with Linda Olsen, while also co-hosting Global News at Noon with Bindu Suri.

Before joining Global Calgary, he spent more than four years at Global Saskatoon as a reporter and anchor.

Senick was part of Global Calgary’s award-winning team that covered the Kenow Mountain wildfire in Waterton Lakes National Park. Outside the newsroom, he is an active youth sports coach at CalTaf Athletics in Calgary.

Joel Senick Career

Joel Senick has built a strong career in Canadian broadcast journalism. His journey moved from reporting in his hometown of Saskatoon to becoming Managing Editor at Global Calgary and Global Lethbridge.

2012 to 2017: Early Career at Global Saskatoon

After graduating from Boston University, Joel began his journalism career at Global Saskatoon, his hometown station. He worked there as a reporter and anchor for more than four years. 

2017: Joins Global Calgary

In 2017, Joel moved west and joined the Global Calgary team. He worked as a reporter and co-anchor on Global News Morning Weekend.

2020: Co-Anchor of Global News Hour at 6

On September 10, 2020, Joel officially joined Linda Olsen as co-anchor of Global News Hour at 6. Weather specialist Paul Dunphy rounded out the award-winning team. 

Around the same time, Joel began co-hosting Global News at Noon with Bindu Suri. The Noon show also featured Leslie Horton on traffic and community coverage.

2024: New Team Joins After Linda Olsen’s Retirement

In September 2024, longtime anchor Linda Olsen retired from Global Calgary after nearly three decades. Dallas Flexhaug then joined Joel Senick and Paul Dunphy as the new co-anchor of Global News Hour at 6 and the new anchor of Global News at 5. 

Veteran reporter and anchor Tracy Nagai also moved to weekdays and became the new co-host of Global News at Noon alongside Joel.

February 2025 to Present: Managing Editor at Global Calgary and Global Lethbridge

In February 2025, Joel Senick stepped into the role of Managing Editor for Global Calgary and Global Lethbridge. This marked a major transition from the anchor desk to a senior newsroom leadership position.

Outside the newsroom, Joel is an active advocate for youth sports. He coaches the junior development group of athletes at CalTaf Athletics in Calgary, where he designs the sprinting program and trains on the track three times a week.
