Jyothika began her acting career with the Hindi film Doli Saja Ke Rakhna (1997), directed by Priyadarshan.

In Tamil cinema, she got early attention with Vaalee (1999), where she worked along with Ajith Kumar and Simran. After that, she acted in Kushi (2000) along with Vijay, and the film also had supporting actors such as Mumtaj and Vivek.

In the 2000s, she appeared in major films like Kaakha Kaakha (2003) along with Suriya, Jeevan, and Daniel Balaji. She later played a key role in Chandramukhi (2005) along with Rajinikanth, Prabhu, Vadivelu, and Nayanthara.

After her return to lead roles, she took on strong character-led scripts, including Ponmagal Vandhal (2020), along with K. Bhagyaraj, R. Parthiban, and Pratap K. Pothan.
