Lloyd Robertson is a Canadian journalist and former television news anchor. He is (92 years old) and was born on January 19, 1934, in Stratford, Ontario, Canada.

Robertson began working in broadcasting in 1952, starting in radio at CJCS in Stratford. He later moved into television with CBC, including anchoring The National from 1970 to 1976. In 1976, he joined CTV. 

He became chief anchor and senior editor of CTV’s national evening newscast in 1984 and held that role until 2011, when he stepped away from the anchor desk. After that, he worked with CTV’s weekly current affairs program W5, including co-hosting it from 2011 to 2016.

Lloyd Robertson was born in Stratford, Ontario, Canada, and grew up there. He became interested in broadcasting at about age 12 after hearing live radio coverage of a local parade in Stratford.

Childhood       

One moment from his childhood is often mentioned as the start of his interest in broadcasting. When he was about 12 years old, he watched soldiers from The Perth Regiment marching home after World War II. 

During the parade, he heard live radio commentators from Stratford station CJCS describing what was happening. He later said that hearing the live broadcast made him realise how important radio could be, and it influenced what he wanted to do later. 

Education 

Robertson completed high school in Stratford. While still in high school, he started working at CJCS radio in 1952, doing weekend work and later reading news at midnight. He has spoken about attending Shakespeare Public School in Stratford during his childhood.

Instead, several universities have recognised his work in journalism by awarding him honorary doctorates. These include an Honorary Doctor of Laws (LL.D.) from Royal Roads University (2006), Brandon University (2013), and Carleton University (2015).

Lloyd Robertson Career

Lloyd Robertson began his broadcasting career in 1952 at CJCS radio in Stratford, Ontario. He later worked in radio in Guelph before moving into television with CBC in 1954, working in places like Winnipeg and Ottawa.

In the late 1960s, he moved to Toronto and became a host on CBC’s Weekend News. From 1970 to 1976, he anchored CBC’s national news program The National.

Robertson joined the CTV Television Network in 1976. From 1976 to 1984, he co-anchored CTV National News with Harvey Kirck. In 1984, he became CTV’s chief anchor and senior editor, a role he held until 2011.

On July 8, 2010, he announced he would leave the anchor chair in 2011. His final broadcast as anchor aired on September 1, 2011. After that, he continued with CTV in other on-air roles, including W5. He co-hosted W5 from 2011 to 2016, then stepped down from that role in September 2016.
