Trisha completed her schooling at Sacred Heart Matriculation School, Church Park, Chennai. Later, she studied BBA (Bachelor of Business Administration) at Ethiraj College for Women, Chennai.
While in college, she started modelling and appeared in print and TV ads.

Trisha Krishnan began her film career with a small supporting role in Jodi (1999), where she played a friend of Simran. Her first release as a lead actress was Mounam Pesiyadhe (2002), opposite Suriya.
In Tamil cinema, she got wider attention with Saamy (2003), co-starring Vikram. In 2004, she acted opposite Vijay in Ghilli, which became her biggest commercial success at the time.
The same year, she appeared in Aayutha Ezhuthu in a small role, in an ensemble cast that included Siddharth, R. Madhavan, and Suriya.
In Telugu cinema, she made her debut with Varsham (2004), which helped her become a leading actress there too. She then acted in Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana (2005) alongside Siddharth, and won major awards for that performance.
