Prabhas Controversies

Prabhas has mostly maintained a private and respectful public image. Most controversies linked with his name are connected to film releases, casting rumours, box office debates, or public reactions to his movies rather than verified personal wrongdoing.

Adipurush Controversy: One of the biggest controversies connected to Prabhas was around Adipurush, released in 2023. The film faced strong criticism for its dialogues, visual effects, character presentation, and treatment of the Ramayana-inspired story. The film had been attracting controversy for more than a year, including criticism before and after release. Co-actor Saif Ali Khan later spoke about the backlash around the film and said religious subjects need careful handling.

Box Office Number Debate Around Big Films: Some of Prabhas’s large-scale films have also been linked to public discussion around reported box office numbers. For example, reports around Kalki 2898 AD mentioned claims by trade analysts about differences between official and estimated box office figures.

Salaar 2 Delay Rumours: In 2026, rumours circulated online that Salaar 2 had been put on hold. The makers clarified the sequel was not on hold and was moving ahead as planned. The makers’ clarification helped calm fan concerns around the project’s future.

Media Rumours and Dating Speculation: Because he is highly private, the media frequently targets Prabhas with unsubstantiated relationship rumours. Following their flawless on-screen dynamic in Baahubali, national media outlets repeatedly reported that the two were secretly engaged. Both stars spent years clearing the air, reiterating that they are just exceptionally close friends.

During the promotions for Adipurush, co-star Varun Dhawan made a playful joke on national television, hinting that Kriti Sanon was dating a certain star shooting in Hyderabad. This caused a massive media frenzy, suggesting an impending marriage, forcing both Kriti Sanon and Prabhas to issue formal denials.

“India’s Biggest Superstar” Promotional Tag Debates : Prabhas’s upcoming big-budget films often spark friction among different actor fanbases across India regarding his box-office status. For instance, when director Sandeep Reddy Vanga released a promotional video for the upcoming movie Spirit, the makers explicitly labelled Prabhas as “India’s Biggest Superstar.” This instantly caused heated debates and digital wars on platforms like X (formerly Twitter) between his supporters and the fanbases of Bollywood and other regional superstars.
