Akshay Kumar Early Life and Education

Akshay Kumar was born into a middle-class Punjabi Hindu family with ancestral roots in Amritsar, Punjab. 

The family first lived in Delhi’s Chandni Chowk area before relocating to Mumbai’s Koliwada neighbourhood.

From a young age, Akshay was passionate about sports and martial arts, inspired in part by his father, who enjoyed wrestling. 

As a teenager, he told his father he wanted to become an actor, and his father supported him in pursuing his interests.

Education

He studied at Don Bosco High School, Matunga, Mumbai.

After completing school, Akshay enrolled at Guru Nanak Khalsa College in Mumbai, but dropped out as he had little interest in academics. 

After Bangkok, he worked in Delhi selling Kundan jewellery, before returning to Mumbai to teach martial arts.

Akshay Kumar is married to Twinkle Khanna, the daughter of legendary actors Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia. 

The couple tied the knot on 17 January 2001 and have been together since. 

Twinkle Khanna has transitioned from acting to a successful career as an author, interior designer, and entrepreneur. 

The couple has two children: a son, Aarav Kumar, and a daughter, Nitara Kumar. 

Akshay is known for being deeply private about his children and giving them a normal upbringing.

Akshay Kumar Career

Akshay Kumar began his acting career through the film Aaj (1987), playing the role of a karate instructor. 

He adopted his stage name ‘Akshay Kumar’ from the lead character of that film, inspired by actor Kumar Gaurav’s character ‘Akshay’. 

He made his debut as a lead actor in the action film Saugandh (1991), opposite Raakhee and Shantipriya. 

Then, he also appeared in Dancer.

In 1992, his breakthrough came with Khiladi, a suspense thriller. The film established him as an action star in Bollywood. 

Furthermore, the film led to several entries in the Khiladi franchise. 

In the same year, he also appeared in Mr Bond and Deedar.

Next year, he appeared in the film Ashaant alongside Dr Vishnuvardhan and Ashwini Bhave.

In the 1993 patriotic drama film, Kumar starred in Desh Bhakti-themed Sainik alongside Ashwini Bhave, Ronit Roy, and Farheen.

There is currently no official release date for Phir Hera Pheri 3, as the film is not currently in production. The project has been delayed due to legal and contractual issues.

The upcoming Bollywood crime thriller Haiwaan, directed by Priyadarshan, in which Saif Ali Khan will be starring alongside him. The film will be released in August 2026.

Bhagam Bhag 2 is currently slated for a theatrical release in 2027. In that film, Akshay is cast with Wamiqa Gabbi, Paresh Rawal, and Lara Dutta.

Golmaal 5 has not yet received an official release date, but it is slated to be released in cinemas in 2027. Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Priyamani, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade, and Kunal Kemmu are with Akshay.

InKhiladi 1080, he will be co-acting with Rakul Preet Singh.

His films Tringaa and Samuk are at the pre-production stage.
