Laila began her acting career as a model, appearing in advertisements before moving into acting in the mid-1990s.
In 1996, she made her debut in the Hindi film Dushman Duniya Kawith Manzoor Ali, while Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan made cameo appearances.
In the next year, she made her lead debut in the Telugu film Egire Paavurama (1997), directed by S.V. Krishna Reddy.
