Sonakshi Sinha Early Life and Education

Sonakshi Sinha was born in Patna, Bihar, into a well-known film and political family. Growing up, she had a relatively normal upbringing and frequently kept her father’s celebrity status hidden during her school and college years to maintain a neutral ground with her peers.

From a young age, Sonakshi was close to films, style, and public life because of her family background. As a child, she also shared a playful bond with her brothers.

It is known that they had normal sibling fights while growing up. This family setting helped shape her confidence, but her first steps in work came through design, not acting.

Before making her mark in front of the camera, she began her career in the entertainment industry as a costume designer, styling looks for the film Mera Dil Leke Dekho in 2005. Her transition to acting ultimately led to her highly successful Bollywood debut in 2010 alongside Salman Khan in Dabangg.

She later graduated in fashion designing from Premlila Vithaldas Polytechnic of SNDT Women’s University.

Sonakshi Sinha Controversies

Sonakshi Sinha has faced a few public controversies during her career, mainly linked to a legal case, online trolling, and remarks made about her upbringing, as reported in the media.

2019 (Cheating and fraud case filed against her): Reports say an event organiser from Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, filed a cheating and breach-of-trust complaint against Sonakshi Sinha and her team, alleging that payment (reported variously as Rs 28 lakh or Rs 37 lakh) was accepted for a Delhi event appearance that she did not attend. In 2022, several reports said a non-bailable warrant had been issued against her after she failed to appear before the Moradabad court. Her team denied the allegations, and the Allahabad High Court later stayed proceedings against her.

2019 (Kaun Banega Crorepati Ramayana question): Reports say Sonakshi, appearing on KBC 11, was unable to answer a question about who Hanuman brought the Sanjeevani herb for, and used a lifeline. She was trolled on social media afterward. The incident resurfaced in late 2024 when actor Mukesh Khanna publicly criticised her over it and her upbringing; Sonakshi responded on social media, defending herself and her father, Shatrughan Sinha.

2024 (Interfaith marriage trolling): Reports say Sonakshi’s marriage to actor Zaheer Iqbal on June 23, 2024, in a civil ceremony under the Special Marriage Act, drew online trolling given the interfaith union. The couple reportedly disabled comments on their wedding photos after facing negative comments.

2024–25 (Family rift rumours): Reports say Sonakshi’s brother Luv Sinha skipped her wedding, and rumours later circulated about tension within the family, including claims that her mother and brother had unfollowed her on Instagram. This has not been confirmed as an actual rift by the family; reports note her parents attended the wedding and gave their blessings, and family members have denied wider rift claims.

2024–25 (New Year fireworks “hypocrisy” backlash): Reports say Sonakshi faced criticism after posting a New Year’s Eve video from Sydney, Australia, showing fireworks with husband Zaheer Iqbal, after previously criticising Diwali firecrackers on Instagram for causing air pollution. Social media users accused her of double standards; the criticism was social media backlash rather than a legal matter.

2017 (IIFA fashion trolling): Reports say Sonakshi faced online trolling over her outfit and hairstyle at the IIFA Awards 2017 in New York, which she later defended publicly.
