Long before most of Atlantic Canada turns off the lights, a steady prairie voice has been walking them through the day’s news.

That voice belongs to Bruce Frisko, a Canadian broadcast journalist and news anchor who has become one of the longest-serving local television anchors in the country and a fixture of CTV Atlantic in Halifax.

His story begins far from the ocean. Frisko was born on October 19, 1965 (60 years old) in the tiny village of Lestock, Saskatchewan, and carried his small-town warmth all the way to the East Coast.

Bruce is best known as the longtime co-host of Live at 5, the hugely popular Atlantic Canada newsmagazine, and as the trusted anchor of CTV News at 6 and CTV News at 11:30.

In September 2025, the industry paid him back in kind, handing him the RTDNA East Lifetime Achievement Award for a run that has spanned more than three decades on air.
