Some voices slip into a city’s morning routine like the first sip of coffee or the rumble of a streetcar rolling down King Street.

Chris Glover is now one of those voices in Toronto.

He is a Canadian broadcast journalist and the host of Metro Morning, CBC Radio One’s flagship morning program in the Greater Toronto Area.

Glover has spent more than 17 years with CBC News. He has reported from Halifax newsrooms, Manitoba’s legislature, and the steps of the U.S. Supreme Court on the day Roe v. Wade was overturned.

Before stepping behind the Metro Morning microphone in May 2026, he was one of the hosts of CBC’s investigative show Marketplace.

He won a national RTDNA Award for his 2023 Toronto mayoral by-election coverage and earned a Canadian Screen Award nomination for Best Local Reporter in 2021.

Chris Glover Career

Chris Glover Career

Chris Glover has built a 17-year career at CBC News, moving from Halifax to Winnipeg, Washington, D.C., and finally Toronto in a variety of reporting and anchoring roles.

Early Career: Halifax and CBC News Network

After earning the Joan Donaldson CBC News Scholarship, Chris began his career at CBC News Network.

He moved quickly from an intern booking guests to a coverage producer leading story meetings and setting editorial priorities.

He then went to the CBC newsroom in Halifax to sharpen his reporting skills.

2011: On-air breakthrough at CBC Winnipeg

In 2011, CBC’s Winnipeg bureau needed help during a Manitoba election, and Chris was brought in for a six-week temporary placement.

Within two weeks, the managing editor offered him a permanent full-time reporter role after being impressed by his ability to explain difficult stories with ease.

2012 to 2016: Legislative and Political Correspondent in Manitoba

In 2012, Chris was named CBC Winnipeg’s political affairs and legislative correspondent.

He covered one of the most turbulent periods in Manitoba politics, including a cabinet revolt against the sitting Premier.

In 2016, on the eve of the next provincial election, he served as a co-anchor of CBC’s Manitoba TV election special, providing live analysis of the results.

2016 onwards: Moves to CBC Toronto

Later in 2016, Chris relocated to Toronto to join CBC’s biggest news market.

He soon began contributing to CBC Toronto and CBC News Network as a reporter and anchor, regularly working alongside longtime weeknight anchor Dwight Drummond on CBC Toronto’s TV newscasts.

His investigative work in Toronto included a housing affordability series called “No Fixed Address,” which he spearheaded and which prompted several legislative discussions.

2018: Toronto Municipal Election Special

In October 2018, Chris anchored CBC Toronto’s municipal election special live from Twitter Canada headquarters.

He hosted the two-hour show without a prompter to keep it feeling natural.

The show was CBC Toronto’s first-ever vertical video, social-first live broadcast.

2020: National Investigation into Canada’s Surrogacy Industry

In March 2020, after more than three months of reporting, Chris and his colleagues, Chelsea Gomez and Laura Clementson, rolled out a national investigation into Canada’s unregulated surrogacy industry.

The investigation aired on CBC’s The National, World Report, The Current, and Front Burner with host Jayme Poisson, along with two custom podcasts.

2021 to 2022: Washington, D.C. Correspondent

Chris was deployed to CBC’s Washington, D.C. bureau, where he covered major American political stories.

He reported from the steps of the U.S. Supreme Court on the day Roe v. Wade was overturned in June 2022, providing extensive live coverage alongside anchor Suhana Meharch on CBC News Network.

His D.C. work also included coverage of the January 6th public hearings, the North American Leaders’ Summit, and NASA’s DART mission.

2023: Toronto Mayoral By-election Coverage

In June 2023, Chris hosted CBC Toronto’s live TV election special covering the Toronto mayoral by-election won by Olivia Chow. The show was presented in front of a live studio audience.

2025: Joins Marketplace

In 2025, Chris joined the national consumer affairs newsmagazine Marketplace as one of its hosts.

His time on the show overlapped with fellow hosts Charlsie Agro, Asha Tomlinson, and David Common, and included collaborations with Marketplace reporters and producers such as Katie Pedersen, Jenny Cowley, Tomi Joseph Raji, Madeline McNair, and Bobby Hristova.

2026 (present): Host of Metro Morning on CBC Radio

On May 20, 2026, CBC Toronto announced Chris Glover as the new host of Metro Morning, its flagship radio morning show on CBC Radio One 99.1 FM.

He officially took over the host chair on May 21, 2026, succeeding David Common, who had moved to CBC Morning Live on CBC News Network.

Metro Morning airs weekdays from 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. ET across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area.

On February 26, 2019, while reporting live from Toronto’s Comedy Bar for CBC News, Chris was licked and kissed on the ear and neck by Canadian actor and comedian Boyd Banks. Anchor Dwight Drummond told him to move away from the man on air. Glover said he felt “humiliated” and “deeply disturbed” and later filed a police complaint. Boyd Banks apologized the next day and said there was “no excuse” for his behaviour. A few days later, Chris wrote a first-person essay on CBC News about the experience, noting that women in journalism face similar harassment far more often and far more aggressively.
