Adar Poonawalla, son of Cyrus Poonawalla, was once thought to be one of the richest people in India. His father, Cyrus Poonawalla, was named Pune’s richest person.

Adar Poonawalla is the boss of the Serum Institute of India, which makes more vaccine doses than any other company in the world. In 2023, the company was worth over Rs 190,000 crore. Cyrus Poonawalla started the company in 1966.

Adar Poonawalla went to The Bishop’s School in Pune, St Edmund’s School in Canterbury, and the University of Westminster.

After university, he started working at the Serum Institute of India in 2001, and the company started selling its products to 35 countries. In 2011, he became the CEO. In 2012, he helped the company buy Bilthoven Biologicals, a vaccine maker in the Netherlands owned by the government.

Last year, Adar Poonawalla surprised everyone in London by agreeing to pay around Rs 1,446 crore, or £138 million, for a huge home measuring 25,000 square feet.

If Adar does own the property, which he hasn’t confirmed yet, he would have the most expensive house in London among Indians.

London has many Indian billionaires, like Lakshmi Mittal who paid Rs 980 crore for a house there, and Mukesh Ambani who has a mansion worth Rs 592 crore. But neither Mittal nor Ambani has the title of the richest Indian with the priciest home in the UK capital.
