Until this year, Chatterjee was the highest-paid CFO in the Group, but he was surpassed by PB Bajali of Tata Motors. While the annual compensation of the Tata Steel CEO slightly decreased from the previous year, he still received a staggering amount of Rs 14,21,18,000 (Rs 14.21 crore), according to the Tata Steel annual report. This translates to earnings of over Rs 3.89 lakh per day.

In FY2023, his earnings saw a slight decline compared to FY22 when he received a compensation of Rs 15,17,18,000 (Rs 15.17 crore). Among the executives at Tata Steel, only CEO TV Narendran has a higher compensation of Rs 18.66 crore in FY23.

Kaushik Chatterjee is recognized for his calm and composed demeanor. Despite his substantial earnings, he leads a modest lifestyle and remains grounded. Kaushik completed his schooling at St Patrick’s School in Asansol, West Bengal. Subsequently, he pursued a BCom degree in Kolkata before becoming a Chartered Accountant (CA).

Prior to joining the Tata Group, Koushik gained experience working for companies such as Britannia Industries and the audit firm SB Billimoria. It was Tata Sons’ former CFO Ishaat Hussain who identified Koushik and brought him on board at Tata Steel. At the young age of 36, Koushik assumed the role of VP of Finance at Tata Steel in 2006. He has been serving as CFO since 2012.
