In a remarkable feat, Pranjali Awasthi, a 16-year-old prodigy hailing from India, has taken the tech world by storm by spearheading a thriving artificial intelligence startup known as Delv.AI, valued at approximately Rs 100 crore ($12 million). Awasthi unveiled her US-based venture during the Miami Tech Week event, disclosing her startup’s inception in January 2022 and the successful acquisition of $450,000 (roughly Rs 3.7 crore) in funding since 2021.
With a team of ten dedicated professionals already listed on Delv.AI’s LinkedIn profile, Awasthi credits her father for being the driving force behind her entrepreneurial journey. Her father, an engineer, sparked her interest in technology, particularly computer science education, at a young age. This early exposure, beginning at the tender age of seven, set the foundation for her remarkable journey, as reported by Business Today.
Awasthi’s journey took a pivotal turn at the age of 11 when her family relocated to Florida, opening new doors for her education. Here, she enrolled in computer science classes and challenging math programs. However, the turning point came at 13 when she embarked on an internship at Florida International University’s research labs. During this internship, she worked on machine learning projects and attended virtual high school due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was during this period that the concept for Delv.AI was born, aimed at utilizing AI to accelerate research data extraction and summarization.
The real catalyst for her career came when she joined an AI startup accelerator in Miami, led by Lucy Guo and Dave Fontenot of Backend Capital. Her acceptance into the program highlighted her unwavering commitment to pursuing her dreams, even at the expense of temporarily pausing her high school education. She recounted the successful beta launch of Delv.AI on Product Hunt, an American platform for discovering new products.
Awasthi’s primary goal with Delv.AI is to aid researchers in swiftly extracting specific information from the ever-expanding realm of online content. She was greatly supported by the accelerator program in securing investments from On Deck and Village Global, resulting in total funding of $450,000 (roughly Rs 3.7 crore) and the current valuation of about $12 million (roughly Rs 100 crore).
Despite her Indian parents’ strong emphasis on education, Awasthi has chosen to defer her college plans in favor of her unwavering dedication to her company. She plans to return to school in the future to gain business knowledge to further bolster her entrepreneurial journey. While at the helm of Delv.AI, Awasthi manages various aspects, including coding, operations, and customer service, and leads a small yet highly effective team.
