During his visit, PM Modi joined 400 distinguished guests, including Mukesh Ambani, Satya Nadela, Anand Mahindra, Sundar Pichai, Nikhil Kamath (founder of Zerodha), and other notable individuals, at the White House for a State Dinner. The dinner was graciously organized by US President Joe Biden and the First Lady, Jill Biden.
For the State Dinner taking place during Prime Minister Modi’s visit, Chef Nina Curtis has been invited to collaborate with the White House team in crafting an exquisite vegetarian menu. As part of the culinary experience, guests will have the opportunity to savor the Patel Red Blend 2019, sourced from a Napa Valley winery owned by Raj Patel, a Gujarati immigrant to the United States. In addition, the guests will be treated to the delightful flavors of Stone Tower Chardonnay ‘Kristi’ 2021 and Domaine Carneros Brut Rose.
Raj Patel, the proud owner of Patel’s red wine, originally hails from Gujarat and immigrated to the United States in the 1970s. Settling with his family in northern California, Raj’s journey into the world of fine wines began during his time as a student at the University of California, Davis. It was there that he embarked on an internship at the renowned Robert Mondavi Winery, igniting his passion for exceptional wine.
In the 2000s, he embarked on his winemaking journey and introduced a limited production of 100 cases of a remarkable 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon under the prestigious PATEL Wines label. This exceptional creation garnered high acclaim, receiving an impressive 95 rating from renowned wine critic Robert Parker of The Wine Advocate. Subsequently, consecutive vintages of PATEL Wines earned scores of 94 or higher, solidifying their reputation for excellence as recognized by The Wine Advocate.
After years of establishing strong connections with esteemed producers, Patel successfully introduced a range of limited-production wines to his brand. Among these offerings are a Coombsville Cabernet Sauvignon, an Atlas Peak Malbec, and a Rutherford Sauvignon Blanc. With dedication and passion, Patel’s winery now produces 1,000 cases of these exceptional wines, all of which consistently sell out each year, as reported by BT.
The exquisite PATEL Red Wine Blend 2019 served to the guests originates from a distinguished winery nestled in the beautiful Napa Valley.
The PATEL Red Blend, 2019, is priced at $75 per bottle, approximately Rs 6,140. This captivating wine, as described on the website, exhibits an opaque ruby color and showcases prominent aromas of black cherry, cedar, and crushed cocoa nibs.
The wine’s profile is enhanced by a multitude of velvety, plush tannins complemented by a solid foundation of refreshing acidity. Its lingering finish unveils layers of minerality, savory crushed herbs, and elegant dried red florals. The forefront is adorned with vibrant red-toned fruit, enticing spice, pomegranate, and hints of mocha. This enticing blend, primarily composed of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, presents an abundance of charm. The silky texture and supple fruit of the 2019 vintage make it an absolute delight to taste.
Raj Patel, the owner of Patel Wines, praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, acknowledging his remarkable contributions to India and commending the fantastic work he has been doing for the country.
