Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, the popular and enduring Indian TV show, has maintained its top-ranking position for years. However, it has recently been making headlines for all the wrong reasons. Controversies surrounding the show have been brewing, involving allegations of sexual harassment against producer Asit Kumarr Modi and cast members leaving due to a reported toxic work environment. Additionally, claims have emerged that some departed actors did not receive their rightful payments, tarnishing the legacy of Taarak Mehta.
Recently, Priya Ahuja, who portrayed the character Rita Reporter and had been associated with the show since its inception, made a significant announcement. She publicly revealed her official resignation from Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah.
Priya had been absent from the show for the past eight months, leading to speculations about her status. When questioned about this matter, she expressed her frustration with the lack of communication from the show’s makers, including producer Asit Modi and operations head Sohil Ramani. Despite her attempts to contact them, she did not receive any response.

In her resignation, Priya accused the show’s team of being “sadists” and claimed they ignored her resignation, waiting for her to take the step herself. Indeed, shortly after she resigned, the show replaced her with another actor for the role of Rita Reporter.
Priya cited that her association with Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah had started affecting her acting career negatively, leading to missed opportunities. She also revealed that after her husband, Malav Rajda, who was the show’s former director, quit, the team severed all ties with her as well.
According to Priya, her husband decided to leave the show after enduring several episodes of misbehavior, which left him disappointed. He had contemplated quitting for some time, and when he finally submitted his notice, the show’s handling of his departure left him disheartened. Despite dedicating 14 years to the show, Malav felt the need to move on due to unresolved issues.
The controversies surrounding Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah and the departure of long-standing cast members have raised questions about the show’s management and working environment.
