SD Shibulal, fondly known as Shibu, is a prominent figure in the Indian tech industry, renowned as one of the founding fathers of Infosys, a global technology services and consulting company. Born in Alappuzha, Kerala, in 1955, Shibulal’s journey from a software engineer to the co-founder of one of India’s largest tech firms is a testament to his exceptional skills and contributions.

Shibulal commenced his professional journey in 1979 as a software engineer at Patni Computer Systems. During this time, he crossed paths with Narayana Murthy and other individuals who would later become the co-founders of Infosys. After dedicating a decade to building Infosys, Shibulal took a five-year sabbatical, during which he joined Sun Microsystems. However, his connection with Infosys remained strong, and he rejoined the company in 1997. Shibulal’s significant contributions to Infosys culminated in his appointment as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) in 2007. Subsequently, he served as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director of Infosys from 2011 to 2014, steering the company through dynamic phases of growth and evolution.

While at Infosys, Shibulal played a pivotal role in the company’s strategic initiatives, helping it navigate the complexities of the tech industry. His dedication to Infosys is reflected not only in his professional roles but also in his financial involvement, holding a stake in the company with a current market cap exceeding Rs 595,000 crore.

Beyond Infosys, Shibulal has ventured into entrepreneurship and innovation. He co-founded Axilor Ventures, a business incubator fostering startups and emerging enterprises. Additionally, he chairs The Tamara, a boutique resort chain, showcasing his diverse interests and leadership in varied domains.
