South India’s initial robotic news presenter was unveiled by the Kannada channel Power TV, as AI news presenters began to infiltrate the Indian TV news domain. The management has named the AI presenter Soundarya, who made her debut on the news show on Tuesday.

As reported by Hindustan Times, Soundarya introduced herself on the debut show by stating, “Greetings to everyone. AI is making its mark in every industry, including the TV news sector. A few of my counterparts (AI news presenters) have already started presenting news on certain channels in northern India. I am Soundarya, Power TV’s first robotic anchor from South India.” The channel will also explore different news programs featuring the new AI presenter, Soundarya.

Several other TV networks in the country have also developed their own AI-driven news readers. Lisa was recently introduced by Odisha TV, a cable television network in Odisha. Lisa serves as the first AI news anchor for OTV and Odisha. Her remarkable news presentation in English and Odia garnered immense popularity online.

The national news broadcasting channel Aaj Tak unveiled the country’s first AI-generated news anchor named Sana in March, describing her as “bright, beautiful, timeless, tireless, multilingual, and always under control.” Sana has a team of human mentors and a human surrogate editor to enhance her job performance. While some viewed it as a significant milestone for journalism, others considered it a curse.
