In a touching display of unwavering passion for cricket, Uzair Nabi, a 13-year-old cricket enthusiast from the Tarhama Kunzer area in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, has captured the hearts of many. Dreaming of representing the country, Kashmir, and his district, Baramulla, just like his idol Virat Kohli, Uzair’s dedication to the sport has become a source of inspiration for others.

Uzair’s journey to owning a proper cricket kit is a testament to his determination and resourcefulness. A photograph of him carrying his cricket equipment in a gunny bag went viral on social media, drawing the attention of netizens who praised his passion for the game.

Speaking about his humble beginnings, Uzair, a sixth-grade student, revealed, “Earlier I used to carry cricket equipment in my hand. Later on, I took a gunny bag and crafted a cricket bag out of it. I never knew my picture would go viral and receive so much fame,” he said with a smile.

Despite financial constraints, Uzair’s love for cricket never wavered. Watching his teammates with advanced cricket kit bags fueled his desire to have one of his own, but he was mindful of his family’s financial situation. “It wasn’t easy. Watching other teammates with sophisticated cricket kit bags used to hurt me a lot, but I am aware of my family’s financial status,” he added with determination in his eyes.

Uzair’s skills as an all-rounder on the field were evident, and he looked up to players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma for inspiration. Encouraged by his family, he dreamt of making his mark on the cricketing world. Recognizing his potential and determination, his family reached out to the district administration and the LG administration for support.
