Priya Bhavani Shankar first worked in television. 

Shankar became known as a news presenter at the Tamil news channel Puthiya Thalaimurai. 

She also acted in the Tamil TV serial Kalyanam Mudhal Kadhal Varai.

Shankar made her film debut in Meyaadha Maan (2017). She acted with Vaibhav in the lead role, along with Vivek Prasanna and Indhuja Ravichandran.

After that, she continued to act in Tamil films in different genres. 

Some of her well-known films are Kadaikutty Singam with Karthi in 2018, Monster with S. J.  Suryah in 2019, she played an important role in the movie.

Later, she acted in Mafia: Chapter 1 (2020) along with Arun Vijay.

In Yaanai (2022), she played the role of Jebamalar, starring opposite Arun Vijay. 

In Thiruchitrambalam (2022), she featured as one of the female leads (Ranjani) in this musical family drama alongside Dhanush.

In 2023, she was cast in a supporting role in this Tamil crime-thriller starring Silambarasan TR.
