Rena Heer Career
Rena Heer worked in software business development for about five years after university. During this period, she also contributed part-time to local South Asian media. After this, she shifted her career to become a news anchor.
Channel M (2003 to 2005)
Rena began her career by joining Channel M in late spring 2003, around the station’s launch as a community relations manager.
Along with that role, she hosted the station’s community segment, Channel M Preview, and a cooking show called Fusion Fare.
Global BC (2005 to 2007)
In September 2005, she moved to Global BC as a traffic reporter on the Global Morning Show.
CTV Vancouver and Canada AM (2007 to 2008)
On December 7, 2007, she joined CTV as the Canada AM weather presenter for Western Canada. She also reported for CTV News at 6 at CTV’s Vancouver affiliate.
From January 28, 2008, to June 6, 2008, she handled weather on the revamped Canada AM. Along with Jeff Hutcheson, she delivered weather updates during this period.
A Western team was also created for the Vancouver studio, along with Mi-Jung Lee (co-anchor) and Omar Sachedina (newscasts). Heer handled weather and special reports for the West.
On June 6, 2008, CTV announced it was cancelling the Vancouver portion of Canada AM.
CP24 (2009 to 2017)
Heer worked at CP24 in the Toronto area as an anchor and reporter. She went on maternity leave in November 2010 and returned in April 2011.
She continued at CP24 until 2017, then moved back to British Columbia.
