Shreya Dhanwanthary found her true calling during her college days, starting with modelling there. But after having different plans for her, she had to come to Mumbai to be the person she is now. Shreya Dhanwanthary came to Mumbai and started doing TV commercials to sustain herself in the city of dreams. She also got offers from many modelling projects in Mumbai.

She has worked on TV commercials for major brands like Airtel, Samsung, Fastrack, Safi, Pantaloons, Provouge, Vogue, Geetanjali, Eyewear, Liberty footwear, and Bharat Matrimony, and D’damas. She started her acting journey with two Telugu films named Josh in 2009 and Sneha Geetham in 2010. Her character name was Bhavna in Josh and Shailu in Sneha Geetham, where she was the lead actress.

Her debut Bollywood movie was Why Cheat India, starring Emraan Hashmi in the lead. She had to defeat 50 girls in the auditions to get the role.
