During the past 11 months, Shubman Gill didn’t play well in cricket matches. Some people wondered if he should still play when famous players like Virat Kohli and KL Rahul come back. Even Ravi Shastri, a former coach, warned him to play better, like Cheteshwar Pujara, after he got out for 34 runs in a recent match against England.
But Gill surprised everyone by scoring a century in the second part of the match. This was his first-century batting at number three for India and his third overall in Test matches. Yuvraj Singh, another former cricketer, praised Gill and shut down his critics.
Gill hadn’t scored even fifty runs in 12 innings before this match. It could have been his 13th bad game if he hadn’t been lucky twice when he almost got out. Shastri reminded Gill about Pujara, who has been playing well in local matches and wants to play for India again.
Pujara last played for India in 2023 and recently scored a lot of runs in local matches. Gill started slowly but then played aggressively against the English spinners.
He made his first fifty runs in 13 innings and turned it into a century. Yuvraj praised Gill on social media for his excellent century and told his critics to be quiet and let Gill’s bat do the talking.
