Former co-founder of BharatPe and Shark Tank India fame, Ashneer Grover, proudly announced on Twitter that his wife, Madhuri Jain Grover, is one of the highest female taxpayers in the country. This financial year, she contributed a substantial amount of Rs 2.84 crore as advance tax, earned from her successful startup investments.
Sharing the news on March 15, Grover tweeted, “Madhuri Jain Grover @madsj30 is one of the highest female taxpayers in the country. She’s paid ₹2.84 crores of advance tax this financial year. She is killing it with her start-up investments – in a year where the space, in general, is falling apart. Kudos to all honest taxpayers.”
Previously, Ashneer had mentioned that his wife has been one of the highest female individual taxpayers in India for several years. He also criticized venture capitalists for evading taxes by residing in tax-friendly countries like Singapore or Dubai.
Ashneer Grover has been a vocal critic of the Indian tax system and expressed his views at a public event. He stated, “The taxpayers in India are doing charity. They get no benefits.” Using an example, he pointed out that for every Rs 10 a person earns, the government keeps Rs 4. This taxation rate implies that a person effectively works for the government for five months out of the year. Grover highlighted that entrepreneurs, understanding this burden, try to minimize taxes, while salaried employees have no such option as tax is deducted at the source.
In March 2022, Ashneer Grover paid an impressive sum of Rs 7.1 crore as advance tax for the assessment year 2022-23, while his wife, Madhuri Jain Grover, contributed Rs 1.1 crore in advance tax, as per the Economic Times report.
