An inspiring example is that of IAS Anju Sharma, who, despite facing setbacks in life, managed to realize her dream by passing one of the most challenging UPSC exams on her first attempt, at the age of 22.

Anju Sharma’s journey was not without its hurdles. In class 10, she struggled with chemistry, failing her pre-boards. Similarly, in class 12, she faced a setback in the economics paper. Nevertheless, she excelled in all the other subjects.

After completing her 12th grade, Anju pursued a BSc and MBA from Jaipur. She earned a gold medal in college, which she believes had a profound impact on shaping her character. Reflecting on her past, Anju shared that during her pre-boards, she had a lot of chapters to cover, and it was only later that she began to feel the pressure. Being ill-prepared, she anticipated failure. The prevailing belief around her was that 10th-grade success determined future academic paths.

Anju attributed her success to her mother’s unwavering support during challenging times. She also learned the importance of not relying on last-minute cramming and started preparing early for her college exams, which eventually led to her earning the gold medal. This approach proved crucial when she tackled the UPSC exam for the first time, and she emerged as one of the top scorers.

IAS Anju Sharma’s career

Following her success, Anju Sharma embarked on her career as an IAS officer in 1991, starting as an assistant collector in Rajkot. Over the past three decades, she has held various prestigious positions, including DDO Baroda, Gandhinagar, District Collector, and NRHM in the Ministry of Industry and Commerce of the Government of India. Presently, she serves as the Principal Secretary at the Sachivalaya, Gandhinagar, in the Government Education Department (Higher & Technical Education).
