Abhijit Roy, a graduate of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Bangalore, is making waves as the Managing Director and CEO of Berger Paints, a major Indian paint company situated in Kolkata. Since taking the helm in July 2012, Roy has steered the company to new heights.
In the past, Berger Paints was under the ownership of businessman Vijay Mallya. Currently, as of August 18, Berger Paints commands a market capitalization of Rs 68,451 crore. On Friday, the company’s share price rested at Rs 704.65.
Roy’s academic journey includes a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Kolkata’s Jadavpur University and a post-graduation in Business Administration (MBA) from IIM Bangalore. His affiliation with Berger began in 1996 when he assumed the role of Product Manager for the ColorBank Tinting System. Over the years, he climbed the corporate ladder, becoming the GM of Marketing in 2004 and the VP of Marketing in 2007. He further ascended to Senior VP of Sales and Marketing in 2008, and in 2011, he was appointed as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and became a vital member of the company’s Board of Directors.
