Rukmani Riar graduated in Social Science from Guru Nanak Dev University in Amritsar and pursued a Master’s degree in Social Sciences at the Tata Institute in Mumbai.

Following her studies at TISS, Mumbai, IAS officer Rukmani Riar pursued internships with notable NGOs such as Ashodaya in Mysore and Annapurna Mahila Mandal in Mumbai. During her engagement with these organizations, Rukmani Riar developed a keen interest in civil service and made the decision to appear for the UPSC exam.

IAS officer Rukmani Riar accomplished a remarkable feat by cracking the UPSC exam on her very first attempt, securing an impressive All India Rank (AIR) of 2 in 2011. It is noteworthy that she achieved this without enrolling in any coaching institute, relying solely on self-study to conquer the UPSC exam.

IAS officer Rukmani Riar heavily relied on NCERT books spanning from 6th to 12th grade, diligently keeping up with regular reading of newspapers and magazines.
