The responsibilities of the Chief of ‘RAW’ (Research and Analysis Wing) have been assigned to Ravi Sinha, who currently serves as the Special Secretary of the Cabinet Secretariat. Ravi Sinha, an IPS officer from the Chhattisgarh cadre, will take over the position from the current Chief, Samant Goel, IPS. Ravi Sinha will hold the position for a period of two years before being replaced.

The government’s initiative to enhance India’s intelligence system and ensure seamless coordination at crucial positions aligns with the ongoing border disputes with China. Ravi Sinha, who currently holds the position of Special Secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat, has been approved by the Cabinet’s Appointments Committee. This decision reflects the government’s efforts to strengthen intelligence capabilities and maintain effective leadership in critical areas.

Samant Goel, the current Chief of RAW, hails from the Punjab Cadre and holds the rank of IPS. Under his leadership, RAW has achieved significant milestones for India. During his tenure, India witnessed notable events such as the Balakot airstrike carried out by Pakistan. Additionally, the decision to revoke Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir was implemented. These accomplishments highlight the successful initiatives undertaken during Samant Goel’s tenure as Chief of RAW.

Who is IPS Ravi Sinha?

Ravi Sinha, an IPS officer from the 1988 batch of the Indian Police Service (IPS), belongs to the Chhattisgarh cadre. Currently, Sinha serves as the Special Secretary of the Cabinet Secretariat. Following the conclusion of Samant Kumar Goel’s tenure on June 30, Ravi Sinha will assume his position and serve as the director of RAW for a two-year term. Samant Kumar Goel, an IPS officer from the 1984 batch of the Punjab cadre, took over as the director of RAW in June 2019, succeeding Anil Dhasmana. Last year, Goel’s contract as the head of RAW was extended for an additional year.
