Vani Kola, the managing director of venture capital firm Kalaari Capital Partners, said, “The company may not publicly advertise its organizational structure, but the industry is aware that Ambani and Modi make a formidable team, driving deal negotiations and executing them with meticulous attention to detail. I convinced Modi to make a rare public appearance at a conference last year, albeit via video.”
Manoj Modi holds director positions at Reliance Retail Ltd. and Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. Senior business executives suggest that he is an adept negotiator and is skilled at securing favorable deals. When dealing with startups, Modi prefers to control negotiations indirectly, as per the Economic Times.
Manoj Modi is a long-time veteran of Reliance Industries, having joined the company in the 1980s when Dhirubhai Ambani, Mukesh Ambani’s late father, was building the oil and petrochemicals behemoth. Modi and Mukesh Ambani were classmates at the University Department of Chemical Technology in Mumbai, according to sources.
Manoj Modi shares a good working relationship with Mukesh Ambani’s wife, Nita Ambani, as well as his children Isha and Akash Ambani, who are spearheading the telecom and retail businesses.
