In a captivating cross-border tale, Shivakumari Vigneshwari, a 25-year-old woman from Sri Lanka, ventured to India to tie the knot with a man she met on Facebook from Andhra Pradesh. The couple exchanged vows at a temple in Chittoor district on July 20, after Shivakumari’s arrival in Andhra Pradesh on July 8 with a tourist visa. However, their marriage announcement on social media led to a storm of controversy.

According to reports by the Times of India, authorities have informed Shivakumari that she must leave the country by August 15 when her visa expires, or apply for an extension to extend her stay in India. The Chittoor district police, represented by Superintendent Y Rishanth Reddy, also advised the couple to register their marriage.

Shivakumari and Laxman’s love story began in 2017 when they connected on Facebook. Shivakumari expressed her desire to obtain Indian citizenship to reside with her husband, but she was required to return to Sri Lanka as her visa approached its expiry date.

Cross-Border Encounters: Anju and Seema’s Stories

In another intriguing incident, two women, Anju and Seema Ghulam Haider, embarked on cross-border adventures to meet their online acquaintances.

Seema Haider, a Pakistani national, crossed the Indian border illegally to meet Sachin Meena, her online friend from a PUBG gaming session in 2019. Meanwhile, Anju, hailing from Kailor village in Uttar Pradesh and residing in Rajasthan’s Alwar district, legally traveled to Pakistan with a valid visa to meet her 29-year-old Pakistani friend, Nasrulla, whom she connected with on Facebook. Anju, however, clarified that she had no intentions of marrying Nasrulla.

Nasrulla confirmed that Anju’s visit was temporary, and she would return to India on August 20 when her visa expires. He also dispelled any rumors of a romantic relationship and stated that he has no plans to marry her.
