Surabhi Gautam, an accomplished IAS officer, has a remarkable success story that continues to inspire many. Hailing from the humble village of Amdara in Satna district, she attended a village school and excelled in her 10th and 12th class exams, making it to the state’s merit list. Surabhi’s journey, from overcoming obstacles of a Hindi medium background to cracking the tough UPSC exam and securing an impressive All India Rank (AIR) of 50, is nothing short of extraordinary.

Surabhi Gautam’s family background played a significant role in shaping her determination. Her father is a lawyer in the local court, and her mother, Dr. Sushila Gautam, is a teacher at a high school. Education at her village’s government school wasn’t easy due to the lack of basic amenities and being taught in Hindi. However, Surabhi remained undeterred and pursued her dreams relentlessly.

In her class 10 board exams, Surabhi achieved a remarkable 93.4% overall score, with a perfect 100 in both Maths and Science, earning her a spot on the state merit list. Even when faced with challenges like Rheumatic Fever during class 12, she never gave up.

After completing her schooling, Surabhi cleared the State Engineering Entrance Examination and enrolled in Electronics and Communication Engineering at a college in Bhopal. Despite grappling with an inferiority complex stemming from her English-speaking skills, she persevered. To improve her command of the language, she started talking to herself in English and learned the meanings of at least 10 new words every day. Her dedication paid off, as she topped the first semester and received the College Chancellor’s Award.

Surabhi Gautam’s pursuit of excellence did not end there. After getting a job in TCS through campus placement, she realized her true calling was civil services. She appeared for several competitive exams, including ISRO, BARC, GTE, MPPSC, SAIL, FCI, SSC, and Delhi Police, achieving success in many. Notably, she secured the first rank at the All India level in the IES Services exam in 2013. In 2016, her relentless efforts culminated in cracking the prestigious IAS exam, earning her the coveted position of an IAS officer.
