Many aspiring candidates make multiple attempts, typically taking 3-4 tries, to crack this prestigious exam. While some may not achieve their desired rank, the coveted position of IAS (Indian Administrative Service) remains their ultimate goal. It is not uncommon for individuals to continue appearing for the exam until they secure an IAS rank.
In this article, we introduce you to one such individual who accomplished a remarkable feat. Yadav Suryabhan, after persisting through four attempts, successfully cleared the UPSC exam and secured a position in the IRS (Indian Revenue Service). However, displaying unwavering determination, he decided to give the exam another shot and finally achieved his dream of becoming an IAS officer. So, who exactly is IAS officer Yadav Suryabhan?
Yadav Suryabhan has successfully cleared the UPSC CSE 2022 on his fifth attempt, achieving an impressive All India Rank (AIR) of 27. He opted for Mathematics as his optional subject. Presently, he is serving as an IRS Probationer. Furthermore, his outstanding performance in the exam has earned him the opportunity to join the esteemed Indian Administrative Service (IAS). Notably, he obtained an impressive score of 1027 marks in the final result.

Suryabhan, a native of Nallasopara town in Maharashtra’s Palghar district, began his UPSC civil services exam journey in 2017. Despite an initial setback, he persevered and achieved success on his fourth attempt in 2020, securing an impressive All India Rank (AIR) of 488. His outstanding performance led to his selection for the Indian Revenue Service (IRS). Notably, Suryabhan’s determination and hard work also paid off in the Indian Forest Service Examination (IFoS), where he secured an admirable AIR of 57 in the same year.
Now that he had a choice, he went for IRS rather than IFoS. But he persisted in attempting since he wanted to be an IAS official. Suryabhan persisted in his efforts to obtain the IAS position. And finally, in his fifth attempt, he received an IAS by passing the UPSC CSE 2022 with an AIR 27.
He received his mechanical engineering degree from the Indian Institute of Technology in Varanasi, which is part of the Banaras Hindu University. He made the decision to try out for the UPSC during this time at IIT-BHU. The public servant also briefly attended coaching to get a sense of how to approach the UPSC exam, he said to Indian Masterminds.
